PLACES HAVE PULSES
PUERTO ESCONDIDO
MÉXICO
When I first visited Puerto Escondido five years ago, my visit was only meant to be for 1 month. However, due to the pandemic esclating, a well-timed whale season, and my luck in meeting some like-minded, great friends, I ended up staying for six months. I felt so connected to the place, with its strong sense of community, its simplicity, its nature and its great food.
When I returned home, I missed it dearly, and considered creating a series of images upon my return, in which I could capture the place in the style of one of my favourite photographers, Paul Strand.
Paul Strand's work centres on different communities that in some way speak to him, with a focus on black and white imagery, of local people, artefacts, with very frontal composition. While I do not have his large format camera, I tried to create this effect.
I really like how the picturs turned out, and hope to continue this relationship with the place for the years to come.
